from CHESTER AND ITS VICINITY DELAWARE COUNTY IN
PA, by Martin
John Crosby (the Judge) owned the last 2 negro
slaves held in Delaware Co, "Old Aunt Roe", and her husband,
"Sampson". After they were freed by law, this ancient couple
lived in an old log cabin, on the left hand side of the road runing from the
Old Queen's road, NW from near Jacob ahewes' residence, below Leiperville,
then called Ridley, to
Crosby's Mills." The died at an extremely old age. After
their death, the Judge built a frame addition to the old cabin and leased the
house and about an acre of ground to a worthy old workman in his employ, who
had been his school-fellow in youth, John Terrance, for a term of his natural
life, for the nominal rent of a penny a year. He lived to enjoy the
generosity of his friend, the Judge, for many years.
