This church was formerly called the Upper West Nottingham, and dates from 1802. It was composed of members of Lower West Nottingham Church, in Cecil County, Maryland, residing in Chester County, who on the change of location of that church, around 1800 , rendering their attendance there inconvenient, withdrew and organized the "Upper West Nottingham" Church. A building was erected in 1802, and was enlarged in 1810.
Samuel Magraw, pastor of Lower West Nottingham, was also pastor of this church until 1821. It was then supplied until 1826, when it was connected with the church in Oxford under one pastoral charge, and so continued until the close of Mr. Binghan's pastorate.
It then became a separate charge, and has had as regular pastors Rev. Wm F.P. Noble, from 11-1862 to 7-1863; Rev. Robert Gamble 11-1864-4-1867; Rev. S.M.Pierce 11-1867-11-1868. From then to 12-3-1872, they had supplies. At the latter date the present pastor * (1881), Rev. Lindley C. Rutter jr was installed.
In 1878-79 a new church
building was erected at Nottingham Station, and the old one is about to be
torn down and the ground included in a cemetery. The name of the church
has recently been change to 'Nottingham."
