In 1701 several Welsh Baptists in the counties of Carmarthen and Pembroke decided to move to America, and it was concluded to form themselves at once into a church, especially since one of their number was a minister. There names were Rev. Thomas Griffiths, Griffith Nicholas, Evan Edmunds, John Edwards, Elisha Thomas, Enoch Morgan, Richard Davis, James Davis, Elizabeth Griffiths, Jennet Davis, Margaret Mathias and Judith Morris. These folks all arrived on the ship "James and Mary on Sept 8th, landing in Philadelphia. About a year later they bought land in New Castle Co, and gave it the name of Welsh Tract, where they moved in 1703 and built a meeting house.
Around 1729 a branch was established in London Britain and a Thomas Morris of that twp in his will gave money for the use of the meeting house in Indian Town in London Britian, so it was already established as a full fledged branch by that date.
